Adoption Services Queensland
Adoption Services Queensland coordinates adoption services for Queensland families.
Our role is to:
- offer a dedicated service to couples seeking to adopt a child from overseas
- improve the working relationships with those countries with which Queensland has an overseas adoption program
- provide a high quality intercountry adoption program in Queensland for children from overseas.
Our responsibilities include:
- preserving the confidentiality of parties to an adoption, treating all parties to an adoption with respect and providing services that are sensitive to individual needs
- ensuring that the welfare and interests of children requiring adoptive placements are of paramount consideration in adoption practice
- determining a couple's eligibility to have their names entered in the Expression of Interest Register
- assessing a couple's suitability to become prospective adoptive parents
- advising couples of the outcome of their assessment
- advising couples whose names have been removed from the Expression of Interest Register or Assessment Register of their right to seek review of a decision
- ensuring all Adoption Orders are made in favour of eligible people whose suitability to be adoptive parents has been favourably assessed.
