Attachment behaviour
A child may demonstrate the following behaviours to show their attachment to their care giver:
- crying to attract the care giver's attention
- crying when the care giver leaves or puts them down
- smiling at the care giver more than at other people
- being more vocal in the presence of the care giver than when they are alone or with strangers
- following the care giver
- looking at the care giver or in the direction of the care giver's voice
- greeting the care giver by grinning, crowing and being excited after a separation
- lifting their arms to be held by the care giver
- clapping hands with or scrambling over the care giver
- burying their face in the care giver's lap
- embracing, hugging, kissing the care giver
- exploring the 'home' base in the presence of the care giver as they feel secure
- running or moving towards the care giver when in danger
- clinging to the care giver or to one of the care giver's familiar possessions.
