Chile
The Chile program became operational in 2005 and is very small. Chile is a signatory to the Hague Convention.
Specific eligibility criteria
- Couples must be between 25 and 50 years of age.
- There must be at least a 20 year age difference between the child and adoptive parents.
- Couples must be married for a minimum of two years.
- Preference is given to couples of South American origin or who speak fluent Spanish.
Information about children requiring adoptive placements
- Children requiring an adoptive placement are five years of age or older, and may be one of a sibling group.
- Children have come into care due to neglect, ill treatment or abandonment.
- Children requiring an adoptive placement have been living in an institution.
- Children may have suffered emotional or psychological trauma.
- Children undergo a psychotherapeutic program to prepare them for adoption.
- Children may have minor developmental or medical problems.
Costs
- The cost to lodge an application in Chile is approximately US$100.
- Costs of translation, interpreters, assessment, immigration, travel and accommodation are not included in this cost.
- Due to the recent development of this program, total costs are yet to be confirmed.
