Country updates
The operation of intercountry adoption programs with specific countries and the placement needs of children in particular countries can change from time to time with little notice.
Our Adoption Services Queensland Unit advises prospective adoptive parents about significant changes and developments in programs. Prospective adoptive parents whose files have been forwarded to a country prior to changes in the program will be contacted by the unit with information about how the changes may affect them.
The Attorney General’s Department’s Intercountry Adoption Branch is responsible for the establishment of new, and the management of existing, intercountry adoption programs with overseas governments. They coordinate the provision of all updated information about country programs to states and territories in Australia. Country information on adoption programs is updated as new information becomes available.
You may wish to explore the Attorney General's Department's Intercountry Adoption Branch for detailed information about country eligibility and the work the Attorney General’s Department is doing into investigating possible new programs.
