Salary and entitlements

Child Safety Officers (CSOs) can earn up to the following salary levels (as at July 2008):

Learning and development

All newly appointed CSOs attend an intensive training program. To prepare officers for their work, the training uses examples of real scenarios and hands-on activities that mirror the real work environment.

After the initial training course, team leaders and specialist trainers will support new officers to complete an on-the-job training and assessment program. Newly appointed permanent CSOs are required to serve a 12-month probationary period.

Working in rural and remote communities

If you are working in a rural or remote area you may be eligible for up to 10 days extra leave per year, annual return airfares to a designated costal centre, and a locality allowance in certain remote areas.

Annual bonuses and other rural and remote incentives may apply depending on the location of appointment.
