Training and support
Training programs
We are committed to ensuring all service delivery staff have access to specialised training and development programs. Our Training and Specialist Support Branch delivers training programs to Child Safety Officers including:
- Child Safety Officer entry-level training - six-month program of face-to-face training and workplace learning.
- Interviewing Children and Recording Evidence (ICARE) - nationally accredited five-day program operated jointly by the Queensland Police Service and Child Safety staff.
- Foundation studies in culture (Indigenous engagement) - designed to build and strengthen child protection services for Aboriginal and Torres Trait Islander children and young people.
Support services
We are also committed to providing a range of support services to our staff. Some of the support services that we offer include:
- advice on practice issues from supervisors and the Practice Support Branch
- advice on employment conditions and related departmental policies from our Human Resources Branch
- education about potentially stressful situations and how to manage these situations
- access to our Employee Assistance Service (EAS) that provides counselling services
- access to our Peer Support Network (PSN) that consists of trained workplace volunteers who give support to staff in relation to matters that affect their work
- critical incident stress management support that includes debriefing and providing individual support during distressing events.
