Youth justice

In some cases, a child or young person subject to child protection intervention by our department will also be subject to youth justice services administered by the Department of Communities.

Among other key functions, the Department of Communities is responsible for:

• the administration of the Juvenile Justice Act 1992
• the management of:
• youth detention centres
• youth justice service centres
• youth justice conferencing
• court services specific to youth justice proceedings
• undertaking intervention with children involved in the youth justice system.
