Referral for Active Intervention
Referral for Active Intervention (RAI) services are funded by the Department of Communities and provide prevention and early intervention support for children, young people and their families who may be at risk of entering the child protection system.
For children, young people and their families to access to RAI services, a referral must be made by Department of Child Safety staff.
The target groups for RAI referrals are:
- families who have previously been in contact with our department but the outcome of an investigation and assessment indicated that the child was not in need of protection
- families where the child or young person and their family would benefit from early access to intensive and specialist support services
- families who have contacted our department seeking an RAI referral.
What services are provided?
RAI services provide a broad range of intensive support services to children, young people and their families, and can also make referrals to specialist targeted services.
Some of the services RAI can assist families in gaining access to are:
- child care
- mental health services
- Indigenous child and family support services
- parenting
- domestic violence counselling.
