Budget 2004-05

Queensland children will be major beneficiaries of the 2004-05 State Budget with a $269.4 million operating budget and $35.1 million in capital funds to build a brand new child safety department that will focus singularly on the needs of abused children.

The 2004-05 budget delivers the largest investment ever made by a Queensland Government in child protection - $109 million in new funding has been committed to whole of government child protection reforms in 2004-05, rising to $214 million by 2006-07.

This new beginning in protecting vulnerable young Queenslanders is the State Government response to the recommendations of the January 2004 report Protecting children: an inquiry into abuse of children in foster care.
