Real carers really needed

Foster and kinship carer recruitment campaign

Currently more than 6,500 children and young people have been removed from their families due to abuse or neglect, but we have only 3,300 foster and kinship carers. In addition, as the number of children and young people who come into care increases, so too does our need for more carers.

Foster and kinship carers are the backbone of our child protection system. They open their hearts and homes to our most vulnerable children. And we desperately need more carers to provide part-time or full-time foster care and kinship care.

The Foster and Kinship Carer Recruitment Campaign is part of the Queensland Government‘s commitment of more than $15 million over five years to recruit, train and increase support for foster and kinship carers.

The campaign is an exciting opportunity to increase awareness of the need for more foster and kinship carers, different types of care, and most importantly, to recruit more carers.

The three month campaign kicked off with a launch at Roma Street Parklands on Friday 9 May and includes state-wide television, radio and print advertising (see the television advertisements).

The campaign has two streams: Indigenous and non-Indigenous. Market research and consultation with the relevant stakeholders was undertaken to ensure the effectiveness of the campaign.

Non-Indigenous: "A message from the kids of Queensland suffering abuse and neglect. We need your help. We need your love. And we don’t care where you come from. The city. The bush. Wherever. We just want to feel wanted. Cared for. Real carers really needed. For part-time of full-time foster care. Call 1300 550 877 or visit our website. Come on we know you’re out there."

Indigenous: "Some of our kids need a helping hand. A hand to feel safe and protected. A hand to show them love and care. A hand to let them know that they’re part of our family too. If you can help one of our kids, please put up your hand for kinship care. Few a few months, a few weeks or even just a few days, call 1300 550 877 now. And help make sure the future of our kids is in safe hands."
