Procedures and guidelines

These procedures and guidelines (PDF 171 KB) are for conducting Quality care: Foster care training as required in the foster carer training policy.

The aim of training is to equip potential foster carers with the necessary skills and knowledge required to undertake this critical role.

• Training is also a key element of an overall assessment of suitability to be a foster carer.
• The training resources that comprise the training package may also be used in providing support to kinship carers and to assist in the orientation of new departmental and licensed care service staff.
• Kinship carers may also be encouraged to attend these training sessions as part of meeting their learning and development needs.

The orientation of kinship carers should also be supported by the use of carer information sheets and accompanied guidelines.
