Family group meeting (FGM)
What is a FGM?
- a meeting where the important people in your life meet to talk about how to keep you safe and what's going to be happening for you
- a lot of the stuff decided at the meeting will go into your case plan - this is a plan about your goals and needs.
Who may be at the FGM?
- you may attend so that people know your thoughts and feelings
- a person from the Department of Child Safety will run the meeting (called a convenor)
- your child safety officer (CSO) will attend
- your parents
- other people from your family who are close to you
- other people who are important to you (for example your carer, guidance officer, health worker)
- if you are from an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander background, someone from an Indigenous service
- people from services who can give you support.
What do people talk about at the meeting?
- what it is like at home
- school things
- ideas to keep you safe and happy.
How can I be involved?
- you can go to your FGM to talk about how you feel - you can say what you like and what you don't like about things the adults talk about
- there are options if you don't want to go to your FGM:
- write down anything you want to say and get an adult, like your CSO, carer or youth worker to read it out at the meeting
- talk to your CSO, carer or youth worker about how you feel and they can share your views at the meeting.
To find out more about FGMs, you can talk to your CSO.
