Purpose
- To provide information, support and counselling to people affected by adoption.
- To provide intermediary and mediation services to assist parties to prepare and understand contact statements, and to assist those who wish and are able to make contact or who have made contact with another party to an adoption.
- Help raise community awareness regarding contemporary adoption issues.
- To provide resources and training to increase professionals’ adoption specific expertise.
Target group
The client groups for post adoption information, support and counselling services are:
- people adopted in Queensland or overseas by Queensland adoptive parents
- birth parents of a person adopted in Queensland or overseas by Queensland adoptive parents
- adoptive parents of a person adopted in Queensland or from overseas
- relatives of an adopted person or birth parent
- adopted children, adoptive parents and birth parents participating in open adoption arrangements
- adoptive parents and adopted children in families seeking support relating to adoption issues.
