General overview

Please read all the following information before completing the Application Form.

The Foster and Kinship Carer Week (FKCW) Committee encourages applications for events that involve partnership and collaboration between foster carers, children and young people in care, non-government foster care agencies, service centres of the Department of Communities, other non-government and government service providers, local community groups and local businesses.

Following the FKCW for 2008, the committee conducted a survey and analysis of the processes and outcomes to help us to implement improvements for 2009 and beyond. One of the major recommendations was that foster and kinship carers are included and consulted during the planning of local activities. We expect that applications for funding will reflect how the voice of carers in the planning/preparations has been facilitated. Some examples might be as a member of the working party, or feedback obtained during normal support activities, or a local poll, and so on.

Activities planned for Foster and Kinship Carer Week should:

Grants of up to $1000 (inclusive of GST) are available

Events should attempt to attract other donations (either in kind or money) so that there are as many opportunities as possible for carers to be involved in celebrations throughout the state.

The main purpose of the event will be to extend thanks to foster and kinship carers, and raise awareness of foster and kinship care within the community. You are asked to be as creative as possible when deciding on an event to honour foster and kinship carers. The committee will look for applications which uphold the values of caring, have a good chance of attracting and involving the greatest number of carers and which promote the aims of the week.
