Funding
What services are funded?
We currently provide grant funding of $123.04 million annually to almost 100 non-government organisations. These organisations provide approximately 270 services or programs across Queensland, to meet the needs of children and young people subject to statutory intervention and their families and carers.
Currently, our department is providing annual grant funding of:
- $90.25 million to 153 placement services
- $18.68 million to 71 support services
- $11.01 million to 37 Recognised Entity services
- $3.08 million to 9 partnership services
- partnership services - funding is provided for representative networks and peak bodies, specific purpose funding (for range of specific events and projects on a one-off basis such as Child Protection Week or Foster and Kinship Care Week), and to support Statewide Partnership Taskforce activities.
- placement services - funding is provided for services relating to overnight care to children and young people such as foster and kinship care services, residential care services, specialist foster care services and supported independent living services (Note: these services are referred to as 'out-of-home care services' in the licensing strategy and policy).
- recognised entity services - funding is provided for Recognised Entities to work with and consult families about decisions and issues relating to the care and protection of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children.
- support services - funding is provided for counselling and intervention services, family intervention services, Recognised Entity services and sexual abuse counselling services.
Note: These key funding areas do not include prevention and early intervention services which are the primary responsibility of the Department of Communities, nor do they include funding allocated for specialist therapeutic services to be provided by Queensland Health, Education Queensland or Disability Services Queensland.
