The Child Protection Statewide Partnership Taskforce held its 6th meeting on 14 January 2005 in Brisbane. The Taskforce, chaired by the Deputy Director General, Department of Child Safety and comprising representatives from Queensland Government agencies and the non-government sector, held discussions on matters relating to the child protection system and the Blueprint for reform.
This Communique provides some of the outcomes of these discussions.
1. Recruitment
Penny Creamer has been appointed as Principal Planning and Partnership Officer (DChS) and will commence 31 January 2005. The recruitment process for equivalent PeakCare position is continuing.
Interviews have been conducted for Zonal Planning and Partnership Officers for Central Queensland, Ipswich and Western, and Brisbane North and Sunshine Coast Zones, with Far Northern Zone to take place 18 January. The recruitment process in the remaining zones is progressing.
2. Legislative reform
A presentation on the update on legislative reform was given, incorporating the following areas:
- framework for regulating carers;
- relative care;
- voluntary intervention and voluntary placements;
- child placement principle; and
- consultation with recognised agencies.
Other items discussed
- Quality Assurance and Licensing Framework: A draft Quality Assurance model was presented for Taskforce input. Included in the feedback from the Taskforce was the need for a Quality Assurance Framework that is consistent across Government and non-government services and shares a common language.
- Practice Manual Group: A subgroup was nominated to review the Version 1 Practice Manual and consists of Bryan Smith (FCQ), Charlotte Matthews (CREATE), Jody Currie (QAIHF).
