Service standards

Our quality assurance strategy for the non-government sector includes eleven minimum child safety service standards (PDF 267 KB) that define quality and convey what can be expected in terms of standard of the service provided.

The service standards are grouped into three focus areas, with each standard aiming to reach a specified outcome of the focus area. The focus area outcomes are:

Focus on children, young people and families using services

Children, young people and families benefit from individually tailored and culturally sensitive services that respect their rights and enhance their wellbeing. The service standards include:

  • accessibility of services
  • responding to the needs of children, young people and families
  • participation and choice
  • confidentiality and privacy
  • feedback, complaints and appeals
  • protecting the safety of children and young people.
Focus on staff, carers and other volunteers

Children, young people and families benefit from services by staff, carers and other volunteers who are appropriately selected, competent and supported to perform their roles. The service standards include:

  • recruitment and selection processes for staff, carers and other volunteers
  • induction, learning, training and development for staff, carers and other volunteers
  • support and supervision for staff, carers and other volunteers.
Focus on governance
