Intake phase

The intake phase is the initial decision making point where our department determines its response to reports of suspected harm, or risk of harm, to children and young people.

It is initiated when information or an allegation is received by a child safety service centre from a notifier about harm or risk of harm to a child, or when a request for departmental advice or information is made.

Each day, the department receives a large number of such reports from a variety of sources including parents, neighbours, health care workers, medical practitioners, social workers, friends and relatives, police and school personnel.
