Parent profile reports
Characteristics of parents involved in the Queensland child protection system is a series of reports building a picture of the families we work with.
These first reports identify which family characteristics could indicate children at risk of harm.
Key findings of the research show that in households where parents have harmed or are at risk of harming their child:
- for nearly half, one or both parents has a drug or alcohol problem
- for over a third, there had been two or more domestic violence incidents in the past year
- for a quarter, the primary parent had been abused as a child
- for about a fifth, the primary parent has or has had mental illness.
Report 1: Demographic profile details the types of households, Indigenous as well as young parent households, the types of harm that occur and households where a child was assessed as being in need of protection.
Report 2: Parental risk factors for abuse and neglect focuses on parental risk factors such as domestic violence, alcohol or drug problems and mental illness.
