Child Protection System Framework

Framing the Child Protection System

Child protection in Queensland has undergone a substantial period of change since the establishment of the Department of Child Safety in 2004.

The child protection system framework has been developed to describe in a user-friendly way each phase of the child protection system, the decisions that the department makes, and the key actions that the department takes to improve the safety of children and young people.

The framework has been developed to provide a common understanding of the system so that the user can navigate and explore the pathways children who enter the system may take, and access further information.

The audience for the framework includes departmental staff, our partner agencies and members of the public.

For our partners, the framework helps clarify where services fit into the overall child protection system. The framework will also help the department in its strategic planning, including identifying possible gaps in service delivery, and helping us identify how to better align services.

For members of the public it provides clear descriptions of the child protection system and how it works to protect children.

Enhancements continue to be developed and, over time, additional information will be 'mapped' across the framework such as where and how various services fit within the overall child protection system.
