Practice changes

Stage 2 of the practice manual supports the legislative amendments to the Child Protection Act 1999 that commence on 30 April 2006. The case management is set out under four stages of ongoing intervention:

Stage 2 includes the following key practice changes:

  1. The introduction of case planning for all children subject to child protection orders or intensive family support.
  2. The requirement to hold a family group meeting that bring together the child, the child's parents, extended family and relevant service providers, to develop a case plan for a child.
  3. The requirement that family group meetings must be convened by officers delegated to act as Convenors under the Child Protection Act 1999. The role of the convenor includes consulting with, and briefing participants before the meeting, to enable their informed participation.
  4. The requirement to review all case plans developed for children.
  5. The requirement to address a child's need for permanency and stability in the planning and review cycle and give priority to the child's needs for long-term stable care and continuity of relationships.
  6. The capacity for Queensland agencies providing services to children to share information that will assist in the provision of appropriate and directed services.
