Child Safety Practice Manual
The Child Safety Practice Manual provides a comprehensive set of procedures that guide and inform the delivery of child protection services by the Department of Child Safety.
The Child Safety Practice Manual is structured into four sections:
- Introduction
- General procedures (that span the child protection continuum)
- Chapters 1-17
- Appendices
The procedures are grouped into chapters that are aligned with the relevant child protection phase, or that relate to a specific area of departmental responsibility. Each procedure contains the following:
- the legislative authority for departmental action
- departmental policies relevant to the procedure
- information about the roles and responsibilities of the child safety officer (CSO), other child safety service centre (CSSC) staff and where relevant, zonal and central office staff
- practice guidance and information
- instructions for the completion of structured decision-making tools
- relevant timelines
- procedural steps for undertaking and recording actions
- links to other procedures, forms, templates, letters brochures and relevant websites.
The procedures establish accountability for the quality and consistency of departmental child protection practice in Queensland.
