CSPM_Nov_2008 updates
Second release of the revised Child Safety Practice Manual - CSPM_Nov_08. Released online - 3 November 2008.
This release includes the following revised chapter in the new format:

Chapter 2. Investigation and assessment
Practice changes
The practice changes included in this chapter are outlined below:
- requiring a CSSC manager or another team leader to approve any investigation and assessment where a team leader has undertaken any of the key steps
- requiring a CSSC manager to approve any investigation and assessment where the outcome 'No investigation and assessment possible' has been recorded
- inclusion of clarification that staff are not to record a new child concern report when there is a current open investigation and assessment
- inclusion of information about families subject to the witness protection program
- changes to commencing an investigation and assessment, to remove recognised entity staff from the group of persons able to 'sight' a child on the department's behalf
- changes to commencing an investigation and assessment, to provide guidance for circumstances in rural and remote regions, where it is not physically possible to access children within the response timeframe;
- return to the legislative requirement to advise at least one parent of the allegations and outcome of an investigation and assessment, rather than making it a requirement to advise both parents
- clarifying information to guide the determination of investigation and assessment outcomes.
