Privacy
Your privacy
The Department of Child Safety is committed to protecting user privacy. We understand and appreciate that visitors and users of this web site are concerned about their privacy and the confidentiality and security of any information that may be provided to us.
The Queensland Government has established a privacy regime for the Queensland public sector based on eleven Information Privacy Principles. These are contained in Information Standard No 42 (IS42), which agencies are required to adhere to. The department's privacy plan details the steps this agency will take to address its obligations under the privacy regime.
Cookies
What is a cookie?
Cookies are simple text files used by many websites for user analysis, statistical reporting and enhancement of user experience. Most internet web browsers are pre-configured to automatically accept cookies, which are then stored in your 'temporary internet files' folder or similar. However, you can usually change the settings for your web browser to reject cookies if preferred. Some web browsers may also warn you if a cookie is being requested by a website.
Each time you revisit a website, that site may request the cookie file from your computer for reference.
You can remove cookies from your computer very easily - check your web browser's help file for instructions. However, if you choose to delete cookies, any preferences you selected while visiting various websites (including automatic logins) will be deleted and you will be treated as a first-time visitor.
You can also view cookie files to see what kind of information is being stored by each website - check your web browser's help file for instructions.
How we use cookies
Cookies are used in certain strictly limited ways on this website:
- A cookie may be used to determine if your computer's web browser software can support certain advanced technologies (e.g. Javascript, Flash and cookies).
- A cookie may be used to collect non-identifying technical information to enhance site performance - e.g. browser versions in use, most popular screen resolutions, etc.
- A cookie may be used to collect non-identifying information for analysis of traffic patterns through our website, for capacity planning purposes - e.g. date and time of visit, pages and documents accessed, key search terms, etc.
- Cookies may be used to retain preferences you have selected during your visit to our website, so they can be used next time you visit the site.
Cookies generated by this website usually contain the date of your visit, the URL of the website which provided the cookie, the expiry date of the cookie and any unique settings you selected while using our website (e.g., if you chose to view information in a particular way).
Cookies used on this website are non-harmful and do not attempt to identify individual users. No attempt is or will be made to identify your personal details from cookies except in the event of an investigation when a law enforcement agency may exercise a warrant to inspect our activity logs.
Note: This website contains links to other external websites, both government and non-government. These websites are not under our control and you are advised to also review the privacy and security statements of those websites.
Email correspondence and feedback information
As this is a Queensland Government website, we treat emails sent to this website as a public record and retain them as required by the Public Records Act 2002 and other relevant regulations.
While our feedback form allows comments to be made without providing an email address or other personal information, the submitter's IP (Internet Protocol) address is logged for security purposes. Your IP address does not identify you as an individual. We will not attempt to match personally identifiable information you provide to us with your IP address, unless there are reasonable grounds to believe that doing so would provide information that is relevant and material to a criminal investigation.
Your name, address or email address will not be added to a mailing list unless you specifically request this, nor will we disclose these details to third parties without your consent, unless required by law.
Email messages sent via forms or links on this website may be monitored by authorised members of our web team for system trouble shooting and maintenance purposes. Where appropriate, some emails may be forwarded to an appropriate departmental staff for action.
Security
The Department of Child Safety will ensure that reasonable safeguards are in place to prevent unauthorised access, use, modification, and disclosure of personal information collected by this website.
