Reform of Queensland's child protection system - One year on
On 22 March 2005, the Minister for Child Safety released a report, Reform of Queensland's child protection system - One year on (PDF 243 KB), which documents achievements in the implementation process in the 12-month period since the Queensland Government released a Blueprint for implementing the recommendations of the CMC report.
The reforms being implemented by the Queensland Government focus on improving the lives of children and young people who have been harmed or are at risk of harm. The reforms are grouped into six key priority areas:
- renewing the foster care system for children
- developing a whole-of-government approach
- building the Department of Child Safety
- creating multi-agency relationships and enhancing mandatory reporting
- addressing the critical needs of Indigenous children
- introducing key legislative changes.
